Professional Experience
Gail Papermaster represents clients in a wide range of corporate, contract, and general business matters. She primarily works with entrepreneurs, closely held start-ups, early-stage technology companies, and emerging growth businesses, as well as venture capital and private equity groups and individual angel investors. Her experience spans a variety of industries, including technology, gaming, biotech, oil and gas, real estate, health care, and entertainment.
Gail frequently serves as outside general counsel and a trusted business advisor to long-term clients, guiding the legal and operational growth of their businesses. Throughout her career, she has overseen more than $1 billion in combined equity and debt financings.
Gail began her legal career in Houston, where she practiced with Baker & Hostetler and Wood, Lucksinger & Epstein. She later relocated to Austin and joined the international law firm Bracewell LLP, where she focused on corporate law and served as a partner and co-head of the firm’s Austin corporate practice. Before joining Grable Martin, Gail maintained a successful solo practice and consulting business, advising clients on a wide range of corporate and business matters.
Personal Story
Gail earned her M.B.A. from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. She enjoys paying it forward by mentoring friends, family, clients, and even the occasional new acquaintance. Outside of work, Gail spends time with her large extended family and wide circle of friends in Austin and beyond. She loves traveling, exploring Austin’s vibrant music and arts scene, geeking out over software and gadgets, and performing with local improv groups.
Community Engagement and Associations
Gail is widely regarded as a behind-the-scenes connector of business and community leaders at the local, state, and national levels. A member of the Leadership Austin Class of 2002–2003, she has been actively involved in numerous civic and community organizations. Over the years, she has volunteered with, served on boards for, and informally advised and mentored a variety of Austin-area nonprofits, including the Austin Guitartown Project, Austin Music Foundation, Accountants & Lawyers for the Arts, American YouthWorks, Austin Children’s Museum/The Thinkery, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Breast Cancer Resource Center.
