Professional Experience
Katy focuses her practice on commercial real estate matters, including acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, easements, and financing, with particular experience in transactions involving governmental entities on both sides. After passing the Georgia and Texas bar exams, she practiced for five years in the Atlanta market with Powell Goldstein (now Bryan Cave) before moving to Dallas to join Brown McCarroll (now Husch Blackwell), one of Texas’ oldest law firms. She later served in-house with The University of Texas System’s Office of General Counsel, where she advised on a wide range of real estate and institutional matters.
Personal Story
Katy was born in Eldorado, Arkansas and lived there briefly before the oil industry took her family to Houston, where she was raised until high school before moving to McAllen, Texas. There, she made many lifelong friends at McAllen Memorial High while leading a bit of a “double life”—working in the Dillard’s China Department and spending Friday nights on the sidelines as a reporter for a local news station covering high school football games across the Rio Grande Valley.
She later moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated and became a lifelong Longhorn football fan. She proudly notes that she attended every home game for four years, missing only one due to the flu. After graduation, Katy stayed in Austin for a year working with the Texas Legislative Service before heading to Atlanta to attend Emory University School of Law.
Outside of work, Katy enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time with good friends, and staying involved in her community.
Community Engagement and Associations
Katy has been actively involved in the Austin Chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network (CREW Network), an international organization representing all aspects of the commercial real estate industry. Since joining in 2009, she has served on multiple committees, the Board of Directors, and was ultimately elected as the Austin Chapter President in 2019. She is also deeply committed to Meals on Wheels of Central Texas, where she volunteered as a delivery driver for 19 years—an involvement she considers one of her most meaningful contributions to the community.
