Professional Experience

Mary Elizabeth focuses her practice on all aspects of bankruptcy, restructuring, and real estate matters. She has significant experience representing creditors, business debtors, and court-appointed professionals, with a particular interest in single asset real estate bankruptcy cases and other matters where real estate issues are central. Her background also includes preparing loan documents on behalf of lenders, as well as extensive work in ad valorem tax practice and in all aspects of collections, including bankruptcy proceedings, foreclosures, and related litigation. Known for her attentive, client-focused approach, Mary Elizabeth prides herself on providing seamless service from loan origination through state and bankruptcy court proceedings to ensure her clients’ interests are consistently protected. Following law school, Mary Elizabeth practiced in San Francisco with Latham & Watkins before returning to San Antonio to practice with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. She later opened her own practice and is now pleased to be part of Grable Martin PLLC, where she collaborates with a talented team of attorneys.

Personal Story

Mary Elizabeth was born in San Antonio, Texas, and is a seventh-generation Texan, with family roots in the city dating back to the early 1700s. She attended and graduated from Saint Mary’s Hall, and later graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin’s Plan II Honors Program. After college, Mary Elizabeth spent several years pursuing creative interests in New York City and Dublin, Ireland, where she earned a Master of Philosophy in Creative Writing with high honors from Trinity College. She went on to teach English and film writing for four years at Saint Mary’s Hall and the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans before returning to Austin to attend the University of Texas School of Law, earning her J.D. in 2007.

Community Engagement and Associations

Mary Elizabeth is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, the American Bar Association, and the Larry E. Kelly Inn of Court.
