Brief Bio

Marshall advises business owners and operators to help them protect, grow, and profit from their investments. He uses his commercial acumen, gained from working across a broad range of industries and roles, applying strategic thought to deal making and dispute resolution. His experience is earned from hands on business administration.

He is passionate about helping his clients achieve their goals and he is innovative in his approach. This means delivering on what clients really need, not just on what they request.

His proficiency in negotiation gives him insight in resolving conflicts between people. Likewise, his experience resolving disputes supports his ability for making and refining deals. This is particularly useful in dealings between parties with wide disparities in power balance. His well-rounded view from a broad range of experiences provides him a unique perspective to find solutions to his clients’ needs.

The Rest of the Story

Marshall grew up in Ft. Worth, achieving valedictorian honors and working part-time as a pharmacy technician. He then graduated with an honors degree in history and business from the University of Texas at Arlington on a full-fee scholarship and played for its soccer team. During his studies, he worked full-time in a conference center and later in logistics. His first job out of university was as a banker at Chase Bank, where he was recognized as a top performing new banker.

He then pursued his law studies at the University of Leeds and City St. George’s, University London. After qualifying as a barrister, he stayed and worked in England, as well as Bulgaria and Norway.

For several years, Marshall worked in house within startup companies. These tended to focus on delivering quality services in under-served markets. Of the many lessons gleaned in Europe, he found that while creating innovative ideas is useful, diligent service and proper execution are often more difficult and imperative.

He returned to Houston to tend to family and participate in cleantech and renewable ventures. Through this experience he gained a better appreciation for the process of building businesses through strategic marketing and targeted sales. This included advising technology ventures by incorporating artificial intelligence as part of the offering.

Yearning to return to law, Marshall obtained another Master of Laws from the University of Houston and joined the Texas bar. He worked with Franzetti Law, a boutique transactional firm assisting clients in mergers and acquisitions, where he learned to work efficiently and effectively. Later, at the Lopez Law Group, he acquired insight into the business of insurance and its leverage on litigation and business decisions.

Marshall then worked in corporate transactions at Latham & Watkins, primarily focused on supporting mergers and acquisitions through contract analysis, diligence, and assessing risk. This included supporting transactions for private equity, venture capital, and sovereign wealth funds. These transactions covered a wide range of industries, including aerospace, banking, biomedical, cryptocurrencies, energy, finance, hardware, media, real estate, services, and software, and involved entities and operations all over the world.

Most recently prior to joining Grable Martin PLLC, Marshall worked with his friend at Cornor Law, where they focused on serving business owners and operators in transactions and disputes.

Following his return to Texas, Marshall met and married Nicole in Austin and patriated her back to Houston. Nicole enjoys exercise, healthy living, and tranquility. They were in due course blessed by a son, Felix, who studies diligently and enjoys building machines and fishing with his family.

In his leisure time, Marshall practices Aikido, a martial art dedicated to resolving conflict and mitigating harm. Marshall also devotes himself to family, which usually involves whatever his son is passionate about at the moment. He also supports Houston’s clean technology and energy transition community through the non-profit Houstainable. Furthermore, he supports his wife’s reading therapy and dyslexia tutoring, as well as the Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

Marshall is delighted to bring the benefit of his talent and experience to the clients of Grable Martin.
