Biography
Before becoming a patent attorney, Bill built his first career as a computer engineer, executive manager, and entrepreneur. Bill served as a regular officer in the United States Air Force where, between assignments at NORAD and the Pentagon, he earned his Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). Bill was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Captain and founded Net5 Solution Enterprises, Inc. where he focused on software engineering and technology transition.
In his capacity as a patent attorney, Bill is experienced in prosecuting provisional and non-provisional utility patent applications, as well as Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and national stage foreign patent applications. Bill is skilled in capturing invention disclosure from subject matter experts in diverse fields, with emphasis in software and business methods, and including blockchain applications, cloud computing solutions, cardiac telemedicine, modeling and simulation systems, and light-emitting diode (LED) implementations. In support of a successful appeal of a decision by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Bill delivered oral argument before a three-judge panel of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Bill authors prior art search and patentability reports, infringement analyses, responses to office actions, and inter-party agreements (e.g., licensing and royalties, software end-user, and non-disclosure agreements).
Bill is also experienced in Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) consulting, with a focus on coaching business clients on the creation, management, and exploitation of intellectual assets. In this capacity, Bill leads business and technical decision-makers through prioritization and budgeting of intellectual property projects, and he counsels clients on intellectual property matters, including development of custom strategies for increasing portfolio value and patent monetization.
When not helping clients protect and commercialize their intellectual property, Bill pursues outside interests in music and sailing.
