Professional Experience

Bill brings a unique blend of technical and legal experience to his intellectual property law practice, drawing on an earlier career as a computer engineer, executive manager, and entrepreneur. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force, including assignments at NORAD and the Pentagon. He earned his Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology before being honorably discharged as a Captain. He later founded Net5 Solution Enterprises, Inc., focusing on software engineering and technology transition.

As a patent attorney, Bill has extensive experience prosecuting United States utility patent applications, as well as Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and foreign national stage applications. He works closely with subject matter experts across diverse technical fields—particularly particle accelerator technology, quantum computing, software and business methods, blockchain applications, cloud computing solutions, cardiac telemedicine, modeling and simulation systems, and lighting technologies—to capture and protect innovative concepts. Bill also authors prior art and patentability analyses, infringement opinions, and licensing and confidentiality agreements; and has presented oral argument before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in support of a successful USPTO appeal. In addition, he advises clients on intellectual asset management, helping business and technical leaders prioritize, budget, and develop strategies to grow and monetize their intellectual property portfolios.

Personal Story

Several years ago, Bill and his wife, Carol, made the adventurous decision to sell most of their possessions, buy a sailboat and live their lives at sea. They now spend most of their time sailing throughout the Caribbean and Central America. When Bill is not navigating new waters, he enjoys strumming on his guitar and writing new music.
