Professional Experience
Lee focuses his practice on commercial, business, and technology matters, serving as outsourced general counsel for emerging companies. He handles complex contract drafting, review, and negotiations, as well as software licensing and SaaS matters, hosting and other technology agreements, financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, dispute resolution, strategic alliances, office leases, and a broad range of other corporate and transactional matters. In addition to his direct legal work, Lee provides practical business guidance and helps clients identify and coordinate specialized legal advice across other practice areas as needed. After passing the bar exam, Lee practiced law for nearly seven years in Dallas, primarily with Gardere (now Foley), one of the largest firms in Texas at the time. In 2000, he joined SiteStuff, Inc., an Austin-based start-up that provided an online procurement solution for maintenance, repair, and operations products and services for commercial real estate owners and managers. The company received venture funding from Sevin Rosen and CenterPoint, as well as strategic investments from CBRE, Trammell Crow, and Jones Lang LaSalle, and was named the fastest-growing private company in Austin by the Austin Business Journal in 2003. At SiteStuff, Lee held a variety of business and legal roles, including serving as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, where he worked on venture financings, intellectual property, employment matters, software licensing, commercial contracts, corporate governance, and strategic alliances. In 2004, Lee returned to private practice, providing legal services as outsourced general counsel while continuing to focus on transactional and corporate work, including contract negotiation, technology agreements, financings, intellectual property management, employment matters, corporate governance, dispute resolution, and strategic alliances. After relocating to Colorado, he continued serving Texas-based clients seamlessly, which reinforced his interest in a more flexible, technology-driven approach to delivering legal services. The family later returned to Dallas, where Lee co-founded Grable Martin PLLC with Shauna Martin and continues to help guide the firm’s growth and client service
Personal Story
Lee was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, alongside his younger brother and sister. He attended Highland Park High School, where he played wide receiver on the football team. He later studied economics at Washington & Lee University and enjoyed his time in the Blue Ridge Mountains before returning to Texas to attend SMU Dedman School of Law. There, he earned his J.D. in 1993 and served as Coordinating Notes & Comments Editor on the SMU Law Review.
Lee met his wife, Christine, shortly after moving to Austin; the two married in 2002 then had two boys, Will and Charlie. In the spring of 2011, while considering a move back to Dallas, the family decided instead to spend a few years in the mountains while the kids were still young. They relocated to Aspen, Colorado, where Lee continued serving his Texas-based clients while getting his license to practice in Colorado. The family embraced life in the Rockies—camping, skiing, biking, and exploring the outdoors. To add to their adventure, they gained another furry family member, Molly the beagle, to the mix.
During those years in Colorado, Lee discovered that he could effectively serve Texas clients without being tied to a traditional office, which gave him a new perspective on how legal services could be delivered with greater flexibility, efficiency, and personal connection. The Grable family eventually returned to Dallas, bringing those experiences and insights with them.
