Short Bio
Matthew wasn’t born in Texas, but he got here as fast as he could. Originally from the UK, Matthew is a trial attorney focusing on corporate bankruptcy and restructuring, securities fraud, director and officer liability, fiduciary litigation, and investor/shareholder litigation. He also represents bankruptcy trustees, receivers, and insolvency professionals in insolvency litigation. He advises across sectors, with particular experience in financial services, energy, hospitality, real estate, and private equity.
A fierce competitor, Matthew is an engaging advocate and a formidable presence in court. He has litigated in federal and bankruptcy courts across the US, including Texas, New York, Delaware, Illinois, and California.
Matthew agrees with Voltaire, that “God is not on the side of the big battalions, but on the side of those who shoot best.” He takes a direct approach to building trusted client relationships and is looking forward to being part of a team that is committed to providing hands-on, substantive work that delivers results.
The Rest of Story
Matthew was born and raised in Sussex, England. After studying Law at the University of Portsmouth, he was called to the Bar in London in 2012. He practiced as real estate and commercial litigator in London.
In 2016, Matthew moved to Dallas and was very grateful to pass the Texas Bar Exam at the first attempt. He became a U.S. citizen in 2021.
Matthew was a keen rugby player until his mid-thirties, retiring twice in the UK, and once in Texas. A physical second row, he was known as “The Enforcer” on the pitch. These days, he prefers wincing on the sidelines and counting his blessings that he is still on his original set of knees.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys spending as much time as possible with his young son, Rupert, and Cocker Spaniel, Effie, both of whom are a constant source of joy and hilarity. He also enjoys a broad range of interests, including karaoke (he sings a passable Elvis and Johnny Cash), live music, clay shooting, powerlifting, opera, and travel, both exploring the US and farther afield. He is also a big fan of the show “Clarkson’s Farm” and would dearly love to be a Gentleman Farmer… one day.
Matthew is a Texas Bar Foundation Life Fellow, and a Barrister in the Honorable John C. Ford American Inn of Court.
