With his unique blend of real estate and securities experience, Michael has helped numerous clients raise money in private placements for real estate development deals. He combines the practical with the legal know-how to help your company move forward with confidence.
The Rest of the Story
Michael was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and—long before he drafted a contract—spent countless hours on the tennis court and in the classroom, a mix of discipline and curiosity that still shapes his practice.
He attended the University of Texas at Austin, studied finance at the McCombs School of Business, and was a four-year starter on the Longhorns’ tennis team. During his time on the Texas tennis team, Michael was part of three Big 12 championship teams, earned multiple all-conference honors, was named an All-American as a senior, and won an individual national championship in doubles.

Immediately after graduating from college, Michael married his college sweetheart, Melissa, packed a U-Haul, and moved to Southern California, where he worked as a financial planner. Michael earned his Certified Financial Planner designation in 2002 and maintained it through 2024. After living and working in California for two years, Michael and Melissa decided it was time to return to Texas. Michael enrolled in Baylor Law School, and they moved back across the country.
Michael graduated first in his class from Baylor Law School, where he served as Managing Executive Editor of the Baylor Law Review. After law school, he joined Haynes and Boone, LLP, in Dallas and then Winstead PC in Austin, where he worked on complex real estate acquisitions, joint ventures, financings, and corporate transactions for public and private clients.
In 2015, Michael felt the pull of of the non-profit world and stepped out of private practice and into leadership as President and General Counsel of the Ron Blue Institute for Financial Planning. There, he negotiated complex intellectual property licenses and partnerships, oversaw multi-site teams, wrote and spoke on the intersection of finances and faith, and taught on the theology of money and faith—experience that now informs his approach to law and life.

Michael returned to the private practice of law in 2022, working for Arambula Terrazas PLLC and Blue Law, PLLC, before joining Grable Martin. Since returning to law, Michael has once again been advising companies, investors, and individuals on real estate and corporate matters, including acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, financing, entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, private placements, and commercial contracts.
Michael enjoys mentoring young professionals and collaborating with ministries and mission-driven organizations on governance and strategy. Outside the office, Michael and his wife enjoy time with their three sons, watching high school football and college lacrosse, being involved in their local church, and finding new adventures.
