Professional Experience
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Ricky Hutchens brings a distinctive combination of creative training, judicial insight, and business-focused legal experience to his commercial litigation and bankruptcy practice. Before entering the legal profession, Ricky earned a master’s degree in film production after attending film school—an experience that sharpened his ability to develop clear narratives, analyze complex facts, and communicate persuasively.
Ricky earned his law degree from Vanderbilt Law School, where he served on law review and earned a Law and Business Certificate. His legal education emphasized rigorous analysis, strong writing, and the practical understanding of business issues that often drive complex disputes.
Following law school, Ricky served as a law clerk to the Honorable Shelley D. Rucker of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and to the Honorable David S. Kennedy, Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee. These clerkships gave him firsthand exposure to bankruptcy litigation, courtroom practice, and the practical considerations that shape outcomes for debtors, creditors, trustees, and other parties in interest.
After completing his clerkships, Ricky practiced with Glankler Brown, PLLC in Memphis, Tennessee. He primarily represented debtors in chapter 11. In 2025, Ricky moved to Houston, Texas in order to work on more complex cases in a larger market.
Today, Ricky represents clients in commercial litigation matters with a particular focus on bankruptcy. His practice includes representing creditors, debtors, and trustees in both consumer and corporate bankruptcy cases. Drawing on his litigation experience, business-law training, and bankruptcy court clerkships, Ricky helps clients navigate high-stakes disputes with a practical, strategic, and results-oriented approach.
Personal Story
Ricky was born and raised in Memphis, TN and has one sister. He attended Cordova High School, where he developed a fascination with visual storytelling. He met his wife, Emily, while they were juniors in high school and they were married in 2004. They have three kids, who take every opportunity to remind Ricky that they are younger, smarter, and cooler than he is.
Ricky enjoys watching professional football and strategy games. He has a fairly extensive board game collection. Most of all, Ricky enjoys going to the movies.
